+ How does Adult autism assessment work in your practice?

During an adult autism assessment, we gather information in several ways to better understand your developmental history, social experiences, and unique mind. These may include:

  • Clinical Interviews – Discussing your educational and work history, relationships, and social experience

  • Standardized Questionnaires – Regarding social communication, behavior, and other traits associated with autism.

  • Structured Assessments – Using specialized assessments to evaluate social communication and patterns of behavior.

  • Additional Information – Reviewing relevant records or gathering information from family members or others who know you well, when appropriate.

+ What is Autism?

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a condition that affects social communication, interactions, and behavior. Adults with autism may have difficulty navigating social situations, interpreting social cues, maintaining relationships, or adjusting to changes in routines. Other common characteristics include intense interests, sensory sensitivities (bright lights, loud noises, textures), and repetitive behaviors (strong preference for routine or predictability).

Autism presents differently in every individual. Some adults develop strategies to manage or mask their challenges, which can make autism less noticeable and contribute to a diagnosis later in life. Many adults on the autism spectrum have unique strengths and abilities alongside areas where additional support may be helpful.

+ How is Autism diagnosed?

Autism in adults is diagnosed through a comprehensive evaluation that includes clinical interviews, standardized questionnaires, and structured assessments. Because autism can overlap with other conditions, including ADHD, anxiety, and depression, no single test is interpreted in isolation. A comprehensive assessment allows us to consider multiple factors, provide diagnostic clarity, and develop individualized recommendations.
